Mission
Yoyot Sp'q'n'i is a Spokane-based Indigenous-led nonprofit dedicated to supporting Indigenous communities affected by domestic violence, homelessness, substance use disorders, and the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP). The organization provides culturally responsive, trauma-informed services and advocates for systemic change to uplift Indigenous individuals and families.
History
Founded by Mariah Brigman (Spokane Tribe) and Angelique “Angel” Tomeo (Colville Confederated Tribes, Quinault, and Ft. Peck Nakota), Yoyot Sp'q'n'i emerged from grassroots efforts to raise awareness about MMIP. The organization's name, meaning "The Voice of the People" in the Spokane Salish language, reflects its commitment to amplifying Indigenous voices and addressing the unique challenges faced by Indigenous communities.
