Mission

The Way to Justice is a community-based nonprofit legal aid organization led and created by women of color. Through direct representation, impact litigation, policy reform, and advocacy, the organization addresses barriers faced by individuals negatively impacted by the justice system. Their mission focuses on dismantling systemic racism, removing obstacles to justice, empowering vulnerable populations, and amplifying the voices of impacted communities.

History

Founded in 2020 by Virla Spencer and Camerina Zorrozua—both former staff of Spokane's Center for Justice—The Way to Justice emerged to continue critical services after the Center's closure. With over three decades of combined experience in the justice system, Spencer and Zorrozua established the organization to provide legal aid and advocacy, particularly for marginalized communities in Eastern Washington.
