Mission
The Spokane Human Rights Commission advises and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding issues related to human rights and unjust discrimination, and the implementation of programs consistent with the needs of all residents of the City of Spokane.
History
Authorized by amendments to Spokane Municipal Code sections 4.10.010, 4.20.020, and 4.10.040, and the addition of section 4.10.050 on April 20, 1992, the Commission was established to promote and protect human rights within the city.
Meetings
The Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Meeting locations and access information are provided in the respective meeting agendas.
Membership
The Commission comprises members representing various districts and at-large positions, including youth members. As of May 2025, the membership includes:
