Mission
The Spokane Homeless Coalition (SHC) is a collaborative network of over 1,300 individuals representing more than 200 agencies, meal sites, churches, and ministries in the Greater Spokane area. The coalition is dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless by fostering communication, coordination, and advocacy among service providers.
History
Established in the 1990s, SHC has been instrumental in coordinating efforts to address homelessness in Spokane. The coalition has grown to include a diverse array of stakeholders committed to improving the lives of those affected by homelessness through shared resources and collective action.
Programs and Services
Monthly Meetings
SHC holds open meetings on the first Thursday of every month from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at The Gathering House, located at 723 W Garland Ave. These meetings provide a platform for service providers, advocates, and community members to discuss strategies, share resources, and collaborate on initiatives to combat homelessness.
Spokane Homeless Connect
An annual event organized by SHC, the Spokane Homeless Connect is the largest and longest-running homeless services event in Eastern Washington. It brings together a multitude of social services under one roof, offering individuals experiencing homelessness access to housing assistance, medical care, haircuts, meals, and other essential services.
Resource Coordination
SHC serves as a hub for coordinating resources among various service providers in Spokane. The coalition maintains a comprehensive list of shelters, meal sites, healthcare providers, and other essential services to assist individuals in finding the help they need. :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4}
