Mission

Odyssey Youth Movement promotes equity for LGBTQ+ youth in the Inland Northwest through youth-driven programs and community education. The organization is committed to creating, sustaining, and advocating for affirming LGBTQ+ youth communities.

History

Established in 1992 as an outreach program of the Spokane County Health District, Odyssey began as a support group for queer youth under 25. The first meeting was held on June 21, 1992, in a spare room at the Red Cross. Over the years, Odyssey has evolved into a comprehensive organization serving LGBTQ+ youth in the region.

Programs and Services

Drop-In Program

Odyssey offers drop-in programs for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults four nights a week. Participants can enjoy a hot meal, engage in activities such as arts & crafts or video games, and access resources like a gender-affirming clothing closet, school supplies, hygiene items, and more.

Basic Needs Program

This program provides essential resources and support to LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, including gender-affirming apparel, hygiene items, menstrual supplies, food, school and art supplies, safer sex supplies, bus passes, and LGBTQ+ books. Odyssey also offers referrals to community resources such as housing support, food access, and affirming healthcare providers.

Inclusive Schools Program

Odyssey's Inclusive Schools program provides guidance and resources to local LGBTQ+ students, their Gender & Sexuality Alliances (GSAs), and supportive staff and educators. The program offers microgrants to GSA clubs, educational resources, and Pride swag items to ensure LGBTQ+ students have the support they need to thrive in schools.

Annual Events

Odyssey hosts and participates in various events throughout the year, including the Youth Queer Prom, Pride In Perry, and the annual Masquerade fundraiser. These events aim to foster community engagement and celebrate LGBTQ+ identities.

Get Involved

Community members can support Odyssey by volunteering as mentors, assisting with events, or making donations. Volunteers play a crucial role in facilitating drop-in programs, running events, and maintaining the center.
