Mission

Latinos en Spokane (LES) is dedicated to building capacity within Latino immigrant families and supporting the advancement of Latino community members, leaders, business owners, and organizations in Spokane. The organization addresses the needs of the growing Latino population through inclusive community engagement, connections to local resources, and serves as a catalyst for immigrant rights, as well as social, racial, economic, and environmental justice for a more equitable Spokane County.

History

Founded in 2017 by Jennyfer Mesa, Misael Vences, and Alberto Alberty, LES began as a grassroots initiative to empower the Latino community in Spokane. Over the years, it has expanded its services and programs to address various needs, including legal assistance, cultural events, and economic development.

Programs and Services

Legal and Immigration Services

LES offers free to low-cost legal services, including immigration assistance and public notary services, to Latinos in Spokane and surrounding rural areas. These services are provided by a dedicated team, including immigration attorneys and caseworkers.

Social Services

The organization provides wrap-around services directly to families facing challenges related to immigration, education, healthcare, housing, and access to city resources.

Educational Workshops

LES conducts free monthly workshops, including English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, ITIN workshops, computer classes, and tutoring sessions, aiming to empower community members through education.

Cultural Events

The organization hosts various cultural events to celebrate and promote Latino heritage, fostering community engagement and cultural awareness in Spokane.

Economic Empowerment

Through initiatives like "Empréndete," LES supports Latino entrepreneurs and business owners by providing resources, training, and networking opportunities to promote economic growth within the community.

El Mercadito

LES operates "El Mercadito," a community market that offers local Latino vendors a platform to sell their products, thereby supporting small businesses and promoting cultural exchange.
